Moss Serenity
We may not know why but we can just relax and feel our response to an expanse of soft mossy mounds of varying greens and textures and… sigh with a little smile. On some level, we sense the ancient history of moss as one of the most primitive forms of plants and can breathe into our elemental connection to nature.
Mosses which have been sustainably harvested from forest floors and preserved to keep their shapes, textures and plushness can become organic art to evoke shady cool woodland strolls. Various kinds of moss are dehydrated of their moisture and rehydrated with glycerin and combined with other natural elements such as bark, lichen, fungus, leaves and graceful branches to become organic art, custom designed for its setting. They can be an abstraction of nature, look like an elevated view of a landscape or be a trim representational graphic.
The natural beauty of the mosses and their kindred elements need no misting, watering or special lighting. The moss keeps its plushness in humidity levels that are recommended for our own health – around 40%. Moss naturally absorbs sound and is durable, making it not just an aesthetic but a practical backdrop of greenery for our daily lives.
It is satisfying to us at Plants a la carte that our moss and lichen creations bring serenity and a soothing calm to interior environments. In addition, it is intriguing to note that some varieties are used by scientists to assess the purity of outdoor environments such as urban and manufacturing areas because of their sensitivity to air pollution. We can take joy in seeing mosses and lichen thriving outside as it is a sign of clean air!
Biophilia is a term used to describe our innate connection to nature. Moss art is an enlivening yet calming way to help us make that biophilic link every day whether we get that woodland stroll or not.
